About the NASC website
Vision
To enable the Norton Amateur Soccer club to communicate with the community in a friendly, easy to use manner which conveys the perspicaciousness and professionalism of the organization as a whole.
Technical Objectives
To provide a reliable, attractive, user friendly, standards compliant, uniform website for the majority of it's user base using existing infrastructure.
The existing infrastucture did not provide any means for server-side scripting, so the pages had to be designed using standard XHTML and client side scripting. Since some of the major web browsers view client side scripting as a risk by default, many users may have it disabled. Thus the site must be able to convey the majority of it's information using only XHTML and the client side scripting must only be used to enhance the viewers' experience.
Since it is likely that a large percentage of the expected user base is still confined to dial-up internet connections, the website must also be las light weight as possible. Therefore CSS was used as much as possible rather than traditional layout tecniques that rely heavily upon graphics.
Due to these constraints the website was written entirely from scratch. The webmaster runs specially created scripts to compile modular components with each page's specific content generating flat XHTML files which are uploaded to the web server.
About the Web Site Administrator
The Web Site Administrator, Christopher Stoll, began designing websites in 1993 at Barberton High Schools Supper Computing Lab. The lab, provided in part by NASA, had an SGI Indigo UNIX machine where the school's website was hosted and where Chris published his first web page.
After high school and college, Chris worked for a few local companies where he designed internet web sites, internal intranets, and internal web-based applications. He has used the full range of web page technologies, including: .NET, ASP, ColdFusion, PHP, Flash as well as the standard XHTML (formerly HTML), CSS, and Javascript.
Now, Chris functions as a Senior IT Business Analyst where he uses his technical knowledge and experience along with his vision for user friendly, "the way that they should be" applications to write programming specifications, mentor junior analysts and lead international IT projects.
Organizations interested in contracting Chris' services may contact him at 330.706.9021. He will accept clients on a case by case basis using the following selection criteria:
- He will only consider requests for high-quality, standards compliant websites and is not interested in designing "quick and dirty" or "commodity" websites.
- He will only consider requests for small to medium size websites. He does not currently have capacity to take on large scale projects, but will design websites as small as a single page if the requestor is commited to publishing a single high quality homepage.
