GAASA U9/U10 Rule Modifications

Number of Players

The maximum number of players for U-9/U-10 will be 6v6. One player shall be designated as the goalkeeper.

Duration of Play

The game shall consist of two 30-halves.

Roster Size

U-9/U-10 roster size for the fall will be a minimum of 6 players and a maximum of 12 players.

Field Dimensions

The field of play shall be rectangular, with the field dimensions of 45-60 yards in length by 35-50 yards in width.

Markings

All field markings should be clearly visible using chalk or paint. Corner flags should be used, but cones may be substituted for flags. The goalkeeper?s area should be marked 10 yards out from each goal. This area should extend from sideline to sideline. This line shall also be used as the marking for the off-side line. A penalty spot should be marked 10 yards from the goal. The center circle is five yards and corner arcs are one yard.

Goals

The goal size will be 6? by 12? or 6?? by 18.

The Ball

The official size ball for this league will be a size four ball.

The Referee

Each game will have a registered referee. We will also have mentoring referees helping out the new referees at this age level (U-9 level usually serves as the entry point for new referees).

Offside

Offside does apply to the U-9/10 divisions. The offside line is indicated by the line used to mark the goalkeeper?s area, 10 yards from the end line, and will be called according to traditional offside call at the older ages.

Restarts

All restarts are indirect and opponents must be at least 5 yards from the ball.

Start of Play

Following the coin toss and following each goal, the kick-off can be played backwards from the center spot to ensure possession. Players should remain in their own half of the field until the ball is kicked.

Corner Kicks

Corner kicks will be taken in the usual manner

Goal Kicks

Goal kicks will be taken 3 yards out from the end line. Players must be out of the box.

Goalie Punts

The goalkeeper may not punt, drop kick, or throw the ball directly over the halfway line.

Goals

Following a goal, the game shall be restarted with a kick-off from the center of the field.

Throw-ins

FIFA. The opponent is five yards from the ball.

Misconduct

All fouls are indirect with the following exception: obvious goal scoring opportunities will result in a penalty kick.

Penalty Kicks

PK?s are to be taken from the penalty spot.
